"Wolę kiedy coś mi się sugeruję, niż dokładnie opowiada. Kiedy znasz każdy detal, umysł spoczywa na laurach, a wyobraźnia traci ochotę, by używać swoich skrzydeł."
/Thomas Bailey Aldrich/

"I like to have a thing suggested rather than told in full. When every detail is given the mind rests satisfied and the imagination loses the desire to use its own wings."
/Thomas Bailey Aldrich/

I was extremely excited to open the envelope with "Featuring" magazine in which you can see my modest mini book. wonderfully inspiring Marit invited me and two other artists to a very interesting project: each of us received a mini album and we were given total freedom to alter it any way we wanted.
first, I was going to make it into a book of quotes but then I decided to illustrate one of my favourite poems. the rest just followed.
moja koncepcja?

the concept behind my book?
last year was very exciting for me - it was filled with all sorts of inspiring workshops and courses - I tried bookbinding, scrapbooking, altering cutlery, mixed-media on canvas using countless delicious supplies and it was a fantastic experience but - to be honest - one might get a little bit confused.
I wasn't quite aware of that but I felt this strange pressure to use inks, gesso and such in my works, to create intricate rich backgrounds etc. and all the time I was frustrated and not satisfied with my work. at all.

the solution? quite simple really.
it's wonderful to try new ways of self-expression but we should try to marry these techniques with our own preferences. there are certain fashions and trends in our creative world but we should constatly remember to stay true to ourselves.
perhaps I'm saying really obvious things but they are not so easy to apply in real life.

what did I do then?
I took a deep breath and used everything I love the most: my beloved vintage ladies, old papers, limited palette and minimalism.

maybe the result is not very trendy. maybe someone will say I didn't put too much work and effort into this book but it's me. the REAL me.
odetchnęłam z ulgą. znowu znalazłam zagubioną przyjemność z procesu twórczego. i dlatego pomyślałam, żeby -

what a relief. I managed to find the delight of creative process again. and so I thought -

- that maybe someone would like to have this mini book at home? if so - just leave a comment here till January 27th. :)

and Marit ............. thank you so much for believing in me and giving me this fantastic opportunity to...find myself again.... :)

"Trzeba przeżyć wszystko, co jest nam dane. Całą radość i cały smutek. Nie wolno nam się od tego uchylić. Nieprzeżyty smutek, przed którym uciekliśmy i tak kiedyś nas dopadnie."
/Hanna Krall/

"We need to live everything that is given to us. All the joy and the sorrow. We mustn't evade. The unlived sorrow that we keep running away from one day will get us anyway."

21 lipca ogłoszę do kogo poleci ten zbiór "emocjonalnych" cytatów.

there were so many lovely words about my last mini book that I decided to create another one and if you feel like having it at home, just say so in your comment. you don't need to have a blog or follow me or advertise my blog on facebook. no strings attached - one comment is enough. I'll announce the winner July 21st. + I will add translation of course. :)

this mini book (10x10 cm.) was inspired by a challenge on Craft Artwork (it's a Polish blog that focuses on small forms like inchies, atcs, tags, etc). girls asked us to create a mini book about Emotions. I used gorgeous Wonderland paper.
the title of my quote book (as seen above) is: "Let Yourself". do you give yourself permission to feel joy? or fatigue? sometimes we need to stop resisting and welcome all the feelings we have.
"To live inside a volcano, to tour/The sky, to walk on the clouds,/To find more joy in yourself,/To find more beauty in the world." /Jolanta Stefko/
"Most of the shadows of our life are caused by standing in our own sunshine."/R. W. Emerson/
"You need chaos in your soul to give birth to a dancing star." /Friedrich Nietzsche/
"I took a deep breath and listened to the old bray of my heart: I am, I am, I am." /Sylvia Plath/
"Anger, resentment and jealousy don't change the heart of others, they only change yours." /Shannon L.Adler/

"I live in the world of my thoughts where my plans and dreams float freely." /Ala Gertner/
"I'm trying to wake up/grow/wait/understand/listen/be brave/believe/hold on/surrender/become/forget/see/I'm trying to wake up." /Sabrina Ward Harrison/
"Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear." /Ambrose Redmoon/
"We need to live everything that is given to us. All the joy and the sorrow. We mustn't evade. The unlived sorrow that we keep running away from one day will get us anyway."/Hanna Krall/
"Be daring, be different, be impractical, be anything that will assert integrity of purpose and imaginative vision against play-it-safers, the slaves of the ordinary." /Cecil Beaton/

/William Feather/

"Plenty of people miss their share of happiness not because they never found it but because they didn't stop to enjoy it."
/William Feather/

jej Deser jest więc odpowiednio blisko natury. ;) koniecznie zobaczcie co upichciły Kolażowe Kawiarki.

a jeśli komuś przypadły do gustu moje Dobre Myśli i chciałby przygarnąć tę skromną książeczkę - chętnie ją sprezentuję. wystarczy zgłosić chęć w komentarzu pod tym postem. do 12 maja.

and so here we are celebrating another season on Collage Caffe. our Spring kit was prepared by sweet Michelle who is famous for her knowledge and love for nature - she knows all the plants and animals by their names (including the Latin ones). no wonder then that her kit consists of all the elements praising the nature around us.
the idea behind my mini book: lovely vintage ladies I adore + quotes about celebrating the moment.
the title is (as seen above): "The Good Thoughts"
if you like it, you may leave a comment below this post and on May 12 I will draw one person who will receive it as a spring gift from me. I will add a translation of course. :)
w kopertce schowałam jeszcze więcej dobrych myśli...

"Vox femina znaczy: głos kobiety. Kobiecy głos jest potężny, twórczy, życiodajny i piękny."
/Phyllis Mathis/

"Vox femina means a woman's voice. The feminine voice is powerful, creative, life-giving, and beautiful."

Dagmara i ja postanowiłyśmy porozmawiać.

Dagmara and I decided to talk.
our conversation will be taking place in accordion mini books that each of us started.
we will be adding one page at a time.
the above is the cover of my mini book.
(the text says):
"once there was a woman/thinking of all the women who dream"

moja pierwsza strona i pierwsze zdanie -

my first page and my first sentence -
"while waiting for illumination I will be dancing in the air"

- that Dagmara continued. and now it's my turn to collage on. :)
"one needs to become a maiden"

a poniżej książeczka Dagmary.
tematyka idealna wręcz dla mnie.

and here is the cover of Dagmara's mini book - just a perfect topic for me.
"attention. a manual of an almost perfectionist"

dobre rady Dagmary:

Dagmara's good advice:
"let yourself be seduced/capture every smile"

i moja odpowiedź:

and mine:
"breathe/don't be afraid/don't be afraid/don't be afraid"

I would also like to show you what I got from darling Deb in our December postage & mail themed Paper Swap.
I must confess that the love letter chocolate is gone already... very helpful while creating. ;)
i jeszcze cudeńka w wykonaniu Deb:

and some gorgeous handmade goodies from Deb:

i moja ulubiona kartka:

and this card is my very favorite thing. I can't stop admiring it.
Deb, a huge huge thank you once again for your gifts!!!!!

/Marguerite Kelly i Elia Parsons/

"Motherhood brings as much joy as ever, but it still brings boredom, exhaustion, and sorrow too.
Nothing else will ever make you as happy or as sad, as proud or as tired, for nothing is quite as hard as helping a person develop his own individuality - especially while you struggle to keep your own."
/Marguerite Kelly & Elia Parsons/

jakiś czas temu postanowiłyśmy z Gurianą wymienić się mini książeczkami w temacie muzycznym. dowolnie interpretowanym.
wybrałam tę piosenkę, którą Kayah napisała dla swojego synka.

a while ago my friend Guriana and I decided to have a mini book swap which involved any interpretation of music.
I chose this song by Kayah who wrote it for her son.
(left): "Before I knew you would come, I had already been waiting for you.
(right): And in the evenings when the lights were out, I would put a candle in my bedroom window so that its flame - like a lighthouse - would show you the way."
(the pregnant lady): "everything's changed."

(left): "why should you wander on the oceans/find me"
(right): "Before I knew you would come I had already loved you. And I had been searching for you in every person I met but I hadn't known that at the time."

(the photo frame): "I'm a mum."

(left): "Before I knew you would come I had already heard (shhh...) your quiet steps."
(right): "And at night when the dusk would creep at the house and the wicked silence looked at me from the walls, the merciful night threw a star at me so that my dream would come true

so that you could be here, my love."

last week I had a great pleasure to meet Guriana in person and to thank her for the mini book (below) that she made for me - it's an illustration of 6 chill out pieces.
make sure you visit her blog to enjoy all the delicious details!!!

"Kocham ludzi.

I still can't believe that it took only seven days for my package to travel from Poland to India.
it's a mini envelope book (with tags as inserts) that I made for Maya from Million Little Stitches.
April edition of Paper Swap organised by Lawendula.
theme: "mini books/notebooks/tiny journals"
and all the time I have this feeling that I'd love to add many more pages there about Women Who Create...
